"Dr. Kathia, her family, and community have been getting to know and preparing the land in a gorgeous area of the Catskills for the last several years so that it may bloom into a space for ceremony, ritual, and connection. It is a large, secluded parcel with many sacred spots. At the center of the property, they have created a hearth overlooking a pond from which all the work may begin and end and where all the elements may be honored from that center. They have spent many hours working with a sustainability consultant to ensure all the changes followed her belief in honoring the land with a minimal footprint.
It is an amazing retreat space that is integrated seamlessly for a close connection to nature but also with special glamping highlights that will make even the non-camper feel comfortable. There is a large deck and ceremonial tent within which a ceremony can be held as well as ample space for sleeping on overnight retreats. There is an upscale "outhouse-style" restroom facility fed by collected rainwater for washing up and an environmentally sustainable means of composting. All necessary outdoor camping kitchen equipment to create nourishing meals is kept on-site and ready for use.
This year, my colleagues and I were unable to hold the initiation for our shamanic training program at our usual location. We hit upon the idea to ask Dr. Kathia if the land she keeps might be ready and available for a day retreat. She agreed, and our initiation was an extraordinary success. We were able to take advantage of all the opportunities for individual questing time as well as communal rituals in many different locations, and delicious meals. Dr. Kathia has deep knowledge of the stories of the land and its connection to previous Native American communities. She assisted us in our initiation with her many gifts, and I would recommend her highly as a guide and teacher.
This is a dream that she dreamed deeply, which is now ready to be shared widely as a healing and celebration space. Our experience was just a taste of the powerful events that will be held here in the years to come. We are very grateful and will most definitely be using this space again in the future.
